Tarragona
We decided to visit Tarragona and the old Roman city of Tarracos. We took the train in the morning and it was very nice and relax trip to Tarragona. Once there, I couldn't believe how hot it was. The air wasn't moving at all and it was very humid.
We walked to the Roman Theatre and were the first to buy a multi visit ticket. The site is nice and has lovely views of the sea. It is a good idea to come early. Then we went to visit the circus right across the street. Very interesting site indeed and it has a video which explains and shows the ancient city, very interesting.
From there we went to the Roman walls following the streets. Stopping on route at a supermarket to buy water and enjoy air conditioning.
It was getting hot when we visited the walls and close to lunch time. We went to a Plaza with recommended restaurants, but a few were closed.
Tarragona also has a Roman viaduct which we visited in the past, but it is out of town and a bit complicated to get to, not touristy and not organized. We didn't visit this time as it was so hot.
Tarakon tapas at the Plaza del Forum was open and we decided on a lunch there. Escalivado (eggplant with red pepper bells) was served with croutons, calamares, patatas bravas with tartare sauce, tortilla and pan con tomate. Actually I had to prepare the pan myself. We were served garlic, tomatos and croutons. The waitress showed me how to proceed and I did, and it was simple and delicious.
After lunch we walked to the Forum in burning sun, but when we got there it was closed for lunch open at 14h30, but all monuments closed at 15h00, so we decided to go back to the train station as it was too hot. We had actually visited in the past. Most of the Forum can be seen from the outside and through the grilled fence. It is also elevated and has a bridge crossing a street.
We came back to Vilanova and right to the sea.
